Lil Lakers, Yankees take 4th of July Firecracker Baseball Reunion tourney

Lil Lakers, Lil Sluggers, Yankees lead Child are/ Fatherhood Initiative league

PORCUPINE/PINE RIDGE – The Lil Lakers came from behind to earn an extra inning 13-8 victory over the Lil Sluggers Saturday to win the 7-9 year old division of the Firecracker tourney in Porcupine while the Yankees, coached by Buzz Salway, defeated A-Town to win the 10-12 year old division.

KYLE PHILLIES The Lil Lakers and the Lil Sluggers are currently tied for first place in the Child Care/Fatherhood Initiative 7-9 year old league with identical 4-1 records. Tony Cross coaches the Lil Lakers which includes Riley Cross, Duece Martin, RJ Jensen, Brady Weston, Kateri Weston, Laney Cross, Yamni Ross, Jeren Crow, Christina New Holy, Alejandro Rama and Christopher Red Owl.

Darby Steele coaches the Lil Sluggers which includes Anthony Nelson, Juwon Garnier, Byron Standing Cloud, Bradley Yellow Thunder, Charles Schrader, Jr., Shelby Jon Steele-Tymes, Tyler Herman, Darrin Tobacco, Darrel Vitalis Jr. and Clayton High Wolf; Raye Red Shirt assists.

PINE RIDGE BRAVES The 7-9 year old division includes the Royals(Terry Middletent/Kyle) 3-1, Wakanyejah(Susan Schrader/Pine Ridge) 1-1, Diablos(Ken Franks/Pine Ridge) 1-3, Lil Red Sox(Stan Walking/Pine Ridge) 1-4, A-Town Tigers(Frank Means/Allen) 0-1, Lil Hurricanes/ Casey Means/Pine Ridge) 0-3.

The Yankees, coached by Buzz Salway are in first place in the 10-12 year old division followed by K-Town(Brian Red Owl/Kyle) 3-1, the Red Sox(Stan Walking/ Pine Ridge), the Regulators(Muggs Cross/Porcupine) and the Lil Braves(Oglala) all at 2-2 and the Phillies(Darrel Janis/Kyle) 1-3.

The league was playing Mondays and Wednesdays in Pine Ridge at the Delmer Brewer field and will go every other week in Porcupine in July. The league was started to provide opportunities for fathers to get involved in youth activities and to provide activities for children across the reservation.
