SIOUX FALLS - This past weekend in Sioux Falls, the Lightning Sticks Society defeated the Grand City Predators 16-15 to win the Dakota Premier Lacrosse League championship.

“We actually came into the tournament 3-9, the fifth best record in the six team league that includes the Brookings Rage, Aberdeen Cobras, Rapid City Shock, Grand City Predators and the Sioux Falls Sparks,” said Kevin “Hoch” DeCora who has been coaching the 19 and under high school age Lightning Sticks for the past five years, “we have 12 players from Rosebud, nine from Red River Falls and four from the Twin Cities, during the season we were competing with graduations, family honorings and ceremonies so we wouldn’t have a full team but for the league tournament, we had all 25 players available to play.”

The Lightning Sticks Society opened the tournament with a 13-4 win over Brookings and defeated Rapid City 16- 15 in the semi-finals. The championship team included Cassidy Bullshows, Caden Whipple, Bobby Hill, Santee Red Eagle, Mahpiya Whirlwind Soldier, Akicita Lamb, David Espinoza Jr., Zane Hesse, Josh Iron Shell, Holden Kipser, Mato Two Eagle, Vincent and Denton Jackson, Triston Arredondo, Mike Hilsper, Omar Arredondo, Travis Brave Heart, John Filzen, Sean Erler, Gavyn White, Aspen Lone Tree, Chaske Spears, Michael Flamond and Bryant Robertson with assistant coaches Mike Prague and Frank Jackson.

A total of 30 teams participated in four divisions of the Dakota Premier Lacrosse League championships including the high school varsity, the JV, 14 and under and 12 and under.
