Pine Ridge Chamber hosts “Beauty and the Beast”

THREE MILE CREEK - After a promising first year run, the Pine Ridge Area Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Three Mile Creek Rodeo Company has brought back their “Beauty and the Beast” featuring a weekly night at the rodeo with bull riding and barrel racing.

“We’ve scheduled every Wednesday night at 6pm, at the Three Mile Creek rodeo grounds, an open bull riding and junior bulls with an open barrel racing and a Jr. barrel racing for eight weeks June 7, 14, 21, 28, July 12, 19, 26 and August 9 with a championship on August 16, four of the events include a Jr. Bareback,” said Ivan Sorbel, executive director of the PRACC, “last year crowds started slow but built up through the series, it’s an event that provides an activity for local people and something to see for visitors.”

Sometime in July, the Chamber is set to feature a play, Lakota Myths and Legends put on by Gus Yellow Hair and his family, each Thursday for eight weeks near the Chamber office in the Prairie Ranch compound. We’ll sell arts and crafts as well, added Sorbel, if communities or districts have upcoming events, we’ll help promote them.

Last year, the Chamber had a grant for workforce development which provided resources for training and jobs for youth, this year, the Chamber doesn’t have the same resources but does offer transportation to and from Cedar Pass for workers and does continue to offer workforce development training, they had 16 youth ages 12-18 participate in a three and a half day training session May 30-June 2.

Results from the most recent Beauty and the Beast event include: Open Bulls 1) Lyle Dillon, 2/3) Slick Phelps and Lante Swallow; Jr Bulls 1) AJ Ramon; Open Barrel Racing 1) Renae Ecoffey, Jr. Barrels 1) Tae Heathershaw.
