Anita Ruby Rowland

Anita Ruby Rowland was born on July 1, 1968 in Pine Ridge, SD to Clarence Rowland and Cleone Ice- Rowland. Anita made her journey to the Spirit World on June 2, 2017 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.

Anita went to school at Manderson Day School, where she graduated 8th grade. She then attended high school at Pine Ridge High School, where she played basketball for the Lady Thorpes. She also attended college at Oglala Lakota College. Anita loved basketball very much, she was also an artist and loved to make drums and medicine pouches. She was very good at teaching her nieces and nephews all of her many good qualities during her whole life. She will be dearly missed by all.

Anita is survived by her mother, Cleone Ice of Wounded Knee, SD; significant other, Debra White Dress of Wounded Knee, SD; daughters, Desiree(Daniel) Fresquez of Wounded Knee, SD; grandsons, Kane, Gage, Daniel, Anthony, and Loyalty; sisters, Vicki Left Hand, Dorothy Sun Bear, and Janielle Rowland all of Wounded Knee, SD; brothers, Dave Rowland, Sr. and Gary Rowland, Sr. both of Wounded Knee, SD; and Brian Rowland of Rapid City, SD; aunt, Frances Ice; and many nieces and nephews.

Anita is preceded in death by her father, Clarence Rowland; brother, Patrick Rowland, Sr.; grandson, Mesu Fresquez; maternal grandparents, Alec and Mabel Ice; and paternal grandparents, Benton, Sr. and Annie Rowland.

A two-night wake service starting at 1:00 PM, Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Fire Lightning Tiospaye Tipi in Wounded Knee, SD.,. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Fire Lightning Tiospaye Tipi in Wounded Knee, SD., with Pastor William Quijas officiating and Mr. Gerald Ice conducting traditional Lakota services. Burial services concluded at the Wounded Knee Memorial Cemetery, Wounded Knee, SD.
