Red Cloud Grinds Out Win Over Pine Ridge, Rolls Over Belle Fourche

PINE RIDGE/BELLE FOURCHE - Down through the first three quarters Thursday at home, Red Cloud rode the high flying Ale Rama to a fourth quarter comeback and a 64-57 win over Pine Ridge for their seventh win of the season.

Pine Ridge juniors Juwon Garnier and Corey Blacksmith helped forge a Thorpe 11-5 first quarter lead. Garnier hit his second three in the second for 12 first half points while Arthur Pulliam hit a three and Pine Ridge was up 27-22 at the halfway point. In the third, both Blacksmith and Corey Brown chipped in six points each and the Thorpes were still up 47-41 at the end of three.

Rama had scored 11 of his team’s 15 third quarter points and went just as hard in the fourth hitting four field goals and six free throws for 14 fourth quarter points. After being down the entire game the Crusaders tied the game at 49 all and took their first lead at 50-49. Russell Leader Charge hit three twos and a free throw down the stretch while Rama went six of eight from the line, between the two guards, they made sure that once in the lead, Red Cloud was going to maintain it.

Rama finished with 37 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals; Leader Charge chipped in 16 points and 6 boards while Louis Her Many Horses pulled down 7 rebounds. Corey Brown topped out Pine Ridge with 12 points and 12 rebounds with four assists and 3 steals; Blacksmith added 12 points as well with 7 rebounds and junior Halin Bad Bear helped with 8 points and 10 rebounds.

On Saturday, in Belle Fourche, Red Cloud picked up their eighth win of the season as they rolled over the Broncs 70-38.

Red Cloud’s Louis Her Many Horses and Ale Rama each knocked down eight first quarter points as Red Cloud went up 23-9 after one quarter. Jesse Jensen came in off the bench and hit for shots in the second quarter, both Jensen and Rama had eight second quarter points and Red Cloud was up 48-23 at the half. The Crusaders cruised through the second half, forcing a running clock after going up by 35 points.

Rama led all scorers with 20 points, he added five steals as well while Her Many Horses finished with 13 points and six rebounds, Jensen also had 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Red Cloud is 8-1 on the season, they travel to CEB on Friday and hosts St. Francis on Monday.

Little Wound Survives Roller Coaster Game For Win Over Todd County

MISSION - Friday night on the road, Little Wound went up by 18, 38-20, over Todd County, survived a Falcon run that cut the lead to two, 51-49 on their way to an 11 point win 71-60.

The Mustangs opened the game with 5 threes, a couple by Jess Shangreaux and two by Tyrone Pourier and one from Riley Cross to go up 19- 11 after one. Duece Martin came in off the bench in the second and contributed a two and went four of five from the line while Tex Janis hit two baskets, Pourier hit his third three and Little Wound was up by 10, 40-30 at the half. Led by Todd County junior Aiden Bizardie, the Falcons outscored Little Wound 19-11 in the third and cut the lead to 51-49 at the end of three. Bizardie scored 11 in the quarter on three 2’s, a 3 and two free throws.

Little Wound closed out the fourth, holding the Falcons to 11 points and scoring 20 to close out a 71- 60 win. Tex Janis had 11 of his 15 points in the second half and finished with 13 rebounds. Cross helped out with 18 points, 12 rebounds, an assist, 2 blocks and 3 steals while Martin chipped in 10 points and Mankato LeBeaux had 4 points, 7 assists and 5 boards. Bizardie led all scorers with 26 points and had 5 rebounds.

Friday night’s game was the first for new head coach a Mackenzie Casey who was hired Wednesday evening to take the place of Jay Jacobs who ha resigned Friday, Dec. 29.

On Saturday, Little Wound came up short against Elk Point Jefferson 60-54 in the Pentagon Classic in Sioux Falls. Tex Janis finished with 17 points, Robert Martin had 12 points. Little Wound is 6-4 on the season and travels Saturday to Redfield for the Pheasant Classic, taking on Warner. Todd County is 4-4 and travels to Chamberlain on Thursday and St. Francis on Saturday.
